Three U.S. Troops Killed in Iraq, Four Injured
WASHINGTON - Three U.S. troops were killed and four were injured in three separate accidents in Iraq, the United States Central Command said on Sunday. An American soldier was killed and three others were injured in the detonation of a piece of unexploded ordnance in Baghdad on Saturday. On Sunday, a U.S. soldier died from a gunshot wound while a truck accident killed a U.S. Marine and injured another. The U.S. soldier from the Fort Hood, Texas-based 4th Infantry Division died after being wounded as a result of a "non-hostile" gunshot, Central Command said in a statement from its field headquarters in Kuwait. The statement said that the two Marines were traveling in a transport truck that rolled over on a road about 19 miles southeast of Al Samawah in southern Iraq. "One Marine died of his injuries en route to the hospital and one is listed in stable condition and expected to fully recover," the statement said. Names of the troops were not released and Central Command said the incidents were being investigated. [Photo image; Transportation of dead American soldiers, Archive]
