Terminal Evacuated as Workers Hear Cracking
Terminal 2E of Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport was completely evacuated today after workers there, clearing up after the roof collapsed this weekend, reported hearing fresh cracking sounds coming from the structure. Four people died when concrete, metal and glass crashed down onto a waiting area on Sunday morning when a large section of the tube-like building gave way. Earlier today, French Prime Minister, Jean-Pierre Raffarin visited the scene of the incident The Terminal has been closed to passengers even since the accident and workers there are painstakingly clearing the rubble and trying to ensure the building is safe. The head of the airport has said that he would have the whole terminal torn down if an investigation proved that the building was unsafe. The companies who built the terminal have been feeling the effects of Sunday's collapse. The share price of Eiffage and Vinci dropped by around three percent today. **PHOTO CAPTION*** Cranes are set next to the 2E passenger terminal of Charles de Gaulle airport Monday, May 23, 2004, in Roissy, north of Paris (AP)
